I’m pleased to announce the newest purchase for my growing production sound rig: the 4-channel M4 Mk II portable mixer by PSC, purchased from Pro Sound at 43rd Street. It’s used, but working perfectly and with barely a scratch. It came with the standard “Porta-Brace” case, cushiony leather strap, and a breakaway cable (for bidirectional XLR connection to camera.) My first of probably many purchases from them — really knowledgeable and honest sales people over there, especially Eric Perez who ran me through their selection of used mixers and priced this unit very competitively.
As the picture shows, the mixer will be used in tandem with my Tascam HD-P2 stereo recorder (a great unit!) The rig actually weighs quite less than it seems in the picture. And that soft leather strap they threw in certainly lightens the load.
Up next on my conquest is microphones. I’ve been researching, testing and inquiring like a madman; not surprisingly, it’s taking me a long time to make a decision.
Alas, the age-old challenge of getting the absolute best bang for your (very limited) buck.
